The aluminum foil is to be regarded as an alternative product for prepackaged lunches as practical and sustainable has demostrated by a study of the IFEU (Institute for Energy and Environmental Research). This study compared two different types of packaging for the sandwich: the aluminum foil for domestic use with a box of rigid plastic, in order to measure the environmental performance. The results were in favor of the aluminum foil in terms of sustainability and environmental impact. The project manager IFEU Wellenreuther Frank wrote in the recommendations section of the LCA, "from the point of view of environmental projects, the aluminum foil gives the worst results of the plastic box with which it was compared. The environmental impacts due to the aluminum foil are lower than those of the plastic box in most environmental impact categories are relevant and equal in the other categories.
